Introduction
A) Long term course:
A regular full time course on M.E. in Electronics Product Design and Technology
is being offered in collaboration with Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh
and affiliated to Punjab University, Chandigarh. There are 10 seats for this
programme.
B) Short term courses:
The Centre has conducted 89 short-term courses and trained 1460 students/professionals
during the year 2000 - 2001. A total of 18367 manweeks of training were imparted
as per the following details: Name of the Course Manweeks Information Technology

is becoming crucial for industrial development and for alleviating the problem
of unemployment. In the year 2000-2001, CEDTI, Mohali conducted two courses
on Entrepreneurship Development in which 61 students were trained. A special
four weeks training course was conducted on Entrepreneurship Development Programme
for Women candidates only. A total of 32 women entrepreneurs were trained in
this programme. The Programme sponsored by SIDBI was organized specially to
promote entrepreneurship among women in the field of electronics and the emerging
areas of Information Technology. Various media were used to impart training
to these participants. Besides classroom training, video sessions, industrial
visits and expert technical consultations on Electronics and Information Technology
were organized .
C) Workshops conducted::
In its endeavor to develop managerial capabilities of small-scale entrepreneurs,
the Centre conducted two workshops of 1 day each on Internet. A total of 35
people were trained through these workshops. A workshop on business Development
through IT - Enabled services was also conducted. A total of 30 people participated
in the workshop. One seminar on Multimedia for Masses was conducted in the center.
A total of 34 people attended the seminar.
D) Sponsored training programmes:
The Centre conducted a number of customized training programmes for a number
of organizations. Department of Posts sponsored 60 candidates for a course on
Repair, Servicing and Maintenance of PC’s and UPS. Persons from Postal department
were imparted training in Advanced Programming Techniques also. CEDTI is also
imparting training to ITI instructors on Information Technology and Electronic
System Maintenance. The total number of instructors to be trained is 200. They
have been divided into four batches, each having strength of 50 students each.
Three batches consisting of 137 participants have already been trained. Milk
plant, Mohali is implementing ERP at its works. Two courses were conducted for
Verka Milk Plant employees to train them in ERP environment. 29 employees of
Milk Plant, Mohali were trained by CEDTI, Mohali. The duration of the courses
was 9 weeks each. Five courses of IT Primer were conducted for Punjab Government
employees. A total of 94 employees were trained under these courses. Following
courses were conducted under EGTS scheme: 1. Repair & Maintenance of Telecom
Equipment. 2. Assembly, Upgradation & Maintenance of PCs. 3. Repair & Maintenance
of PCs. 4. Repair, Service & Maint. Of Telecom Equipment. 5. Assembly, Testing
& Maintenance of PCs. Total number of participants trained was 50.
E) New Training Programmes planned for 2001-2002:
The New Training programmes planned for the year 2001-2002 are:
i) DOEACC ‘B’ Level
ii) Advanced Diploma in Network Planning & Administration
